December 15th, 2014 — It was announced today that the Motocross Track at Mission Raceway would be closed so the B.C. Custom Car Association, who own the property, can expand the road course for sports cars and the pits used for drag racing. The motocross track first opened in 1973 and ran continuously every year since. In its early days it was memorable mainly for it’s mud which was slippery but always rideable, it’s sand whoops which often weren’t, and the man made hill above which was quite something in 1983 when the picture was taken. Many riders, myself included, had their first race at Mission.
Motocross at Mission
April 6, 2003 — There are some crashes that are just plain annoying; for instance this one, where not only does the rider find himself lying on the ground but he has to watch all those guys passing him. #067
June 1, 2003 — CMA BC championship motocross race held at Mission Raceway. #034
July 1986 — The sand whoops at the old Mission track could be tricky at times as this rider found out during a BC Oldtimers International race. #118
June 12th, 1992 — Milton Harden of the Washington Old Timers enjoys the end of what had to be one of the worst mud races of all time, the BCOT International at Mission. #630
April 12th, 2009 — It looks a lot like cross country or hare and hound but it’s actually motocross in the rain and mud at Mission. #082
June 15, 2003 — The yellow flag can mean many things but in a pro race seldom does it warn of a rider pointing the wrong way in the whoops calmly trying to start his bike. Of course this is the 250cc class and the CMRC national at Mission. #055
May 8th, 2011 — Another mud race at Mission Raceway. #002
April 17th, 2005 — Some riders pull a tear off with the bike’s suspension fully extended over a long jump. Others, like this rider at Mission Raceway, like to do it with the suspension fully compressed just as the bike lands. #114
March 8th, 2009 — First race of the 2009 motocross season at Mission and it’s snowing.
