Wrestling

March 2nd, 1974 — Brian Boivin of Britannia (top) pinned Doug Kirk (bottom) of Burnaby South at the 1974 BC high school wrestling championship in Port Moody. Boivin went on to win the 123 pound title.

Golden gloves 1980

March 22nd, 1980 — Danny Thompson of Maple Ridge is knocked on the ropes by Andy Minsker of Oregon during a golden gloves bout at Exhibition Gardens in Vancouver. Minsker won the bout and the title in the senior class. Another set of pictures long in my archives without names until Newspaper.com digitized every issue of the Vancouver Province and made them available online. More boxing pictures HERE.

Named at last

May 31st, 1975 — John Pankratz (268), above, celebrates winning the senior boys 100 meters at the Provincial high school track and field championships at Swangard Stadium. This picture and those below have been sitting in my archives for years waiting for names which I finally obtained thanks to Newspapers.com which recently digitized every copy of the Vancouver Province and Vancouver Sun.

Tom Griffin (383), above winning the senior boys 1500 meters. John Martens (27) was second.

Brit Lind-Peterson (207), above, won the senior girls 1500 meters.

Margo Howe (282), above winning the senior girls 100 meters. Kathy Weich (49) on the left pulls up with a pulled hamstring.

Hairodynamic it is

October 6th, 2018 — No pictures from this weekend’s cyclocross races in Aldergrove as I’m travelling but this picture of Tom Skinner was a favourite from the race last week at Acadia Park, UBC.
