May 23rd, 2018 — This old house converted into stores next to the water in Ganges is undergoing a renovation by its new owner. I’m not sure it will be an improvement on the old building shown below as it was in July of 2007.

January 11th, 2018 — There seems to be a big disconnect between what BC Assessment thinks a structure on a Salt Spring Island property is worth and what the owners think it’s worth. This house, not the land it sits on, was assessed at $295,000 in 2017 which is a lot of money for a very old run down 1200 square foot house. A few weeks ago the new owners began stripping it to the studs so they can rebuild onto the original building. Assuming the siding will soon go and the roof will be replaced, what remains are the studs, rafters, and joists. I didn’t count them but I will guess there are about 300 and that number divided into the assessed value make them worth close to $3000 each.
