So you wanna fight?

It was a night of boxing featuring bikers, thugs and bouncers. The idea was to have a series of fights that anyone could enter, strictly for amateurs, with no licenses required, just a quick and simple medical check. Each bout would be three rounds, the winner getting to box again until he had no one left to fight.

The event was called “So You Wanna Fight” and for the winner there was $1,000 in prize money which was a lot of money in 1979.

These pictures are from the first of these events, held in the Gardens at the Pacific National Exhibition on April 7th, 1979. Some were published in the Vancouver Express on April 9th, 1979.

A story about this event written by Pete McMartin can be found HERE.
