June 6th, 2009 — Mike Slater of Mount Douglas High School emerges from a dunking after falling at the water jump during the men’s 2000 meter steeplechase at the 2009 BC High School Track and Field Championships. Mike recovered to finish 18th.

1500 meters women

Lindsay Buttersworth 1500 meters 2009
Jne 6th, 2009 — Lindsay Buttersworth (739) of Handworth High School makes her move to the front in the womens 1500 meters and stayed there to win with a time of 4:48.26 at the 2009 BC High School Track and Field Championships. Sam Walkow (909) was third after winning the womens 3000 meter race on Friday. Sarah Bailey (553) was second.

1500 meters men

Luc Bruchet 1500 meters 2009
June 6th, 2009 — Luc Bruchet (905) of Elgin Park High School won the mens 1500 meters with a time of 4:00.87 at the 2009 BC High School Track and Field Championships. Carl Johnson (1131) was second. Later in the afternoon Bruchet finished second in the mens 800 meters.

Amabel Stokes 400 meters 2009
June 6th, 2009 — Vanessa Sjoberg of Semiahoo High School in Surrey set the fastest time in the 400 meter grade 9 women’s preliminaries at the BC High School Track and Field Championhips at Swangard Stadium and was leading the final until 10 meters from the finish when she tripped and finished last. Amabel Stokes (right) from York House, who also won the 200 meter sprint, finished first in an upset. Vanessa’s team mate Alison Williams (left) finished second.

Jared Heldman

Jared Heldman sprinter 2009
June 6th, 2009 — Jared Heldman of Brookswood High School won both the 100 meter and 200 meter men’s sprints at the 2009 BC High School Track and Field Championhips at Swangard Stadium and was named the Most Inspirational Performer of the meet.

Jacob Emerson steeplechase 2009
June 6th, 2009 — The steeplechase event at the BC High School Track and Field Championhips at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby always contains surprises such as Jacob Emerson of Maple Ridge High School slipping on the water jump and submerging himself before scrambling to get out of the way of runners following him. Emerson recovered and finished 15th.
