More of the Tuesday night crits

August 14th, 2012 — Another wierd picture from the Escape Velocity Tuesday night criterium as a bike damaged in a crash is carried back to the start line by the buddy of an injured rider. More pictures from all this year’s crits below.

One of those nights

August 7th, 2012 — One of the pleasant aspects of watching the Escape Velocity Tuesday night criteriums is the endless supply of interesting bikes that show up for the races. Where else would you find two vintage steel Pinarello’s racing side by side, one with down tube shifters.

Gastown Grand Prix 1977

August 2, 1977 -- Gastown Grand Prix bicycle race

August 2nd, 1977 — While watching the 1977 Gastown Grand Prix, spectators were able to sip a beer as they sat on the curb next to the many sidewalk cafes around the course. Very civilized, very European, it would be nice if those days came back. In the picture below, the winner of the 1977 race, Lawrence Malone from San Francisco, does a parade lap along Water Street. The 2012 Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix takes place Wednesday, July 11 at 6pm.
