Jeremy’s Roubaix
April 12th, 2015 — The Local Ride sponsored Jeremy’s Roubaix started in Pit Meadows during a downpour but ended in sunshine. Above, Mighty Rider’s Alex Dove, winner of the Cat 3 men’s race, finished alone far in front of the pack. More pictures below.
Escape Velocity spring series
March 1st 2015 — Bicycle racing on open roads has its moments of humour. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen the driver of a pickup pulling a horse trailer think he would be faster up a hill than Cat 1 riders. The truck was dropped very quickly at the next intersection. UBC Tuesday night crits
August 19th, 2014 — “If you can’t drop the old guy on the mountain bike you’re not ready to move up from the novice class.” A bit of craziness in the novice class peloton from the last Escape Velocity Tuesday night criterium at UBC for this year. No, he wasn’t racing although as he passed by a spectator was heard to say, “Doesn’t that guy look a lot like Sluggo“. More pictures from the race below.
2014 Giro di Burnaby
July 10th, 2014 — Luke Keough (11) of the United Health Care pro cycling team won the final sprint to win the 2014 Giro di Burnaby over teammate Ken Hanson.
In the women’s race, Erica Allar just squeaked by Leah Kirchmann in the final sprint for the win.
Gastown Gran Prix 2014
July 9th, 2014 — Winner of the 2014 Gastown Gran Prix Leah Kirchmann shakes hands after the race with Joanne Kiesanowski who finished second. It might have ended differently if one of Kiesanowski’s lead out riders hadn’t crashed exiting turn one on the last lap.
There was also a crash in the early laps of the men’s race which sent at least 20 riders into the pits for repairs.
Tour of Delta
July 6th, 2014 — Jesse Anthony of the Optum Kelly Benefits Strategies cycling team celebrates as he crosses the finish line to win the Tour of Delta road race in Tsawwassen in 3 hours 27 minutes. The race was part of BC Superweek 2014. More pictures from this race below.
Gastown Grand Prix 1977
August 2, 1977 — A pedestrian walks across Water Street right through the middle of the peloton during the 1977 Gastown Grand Prix bicycle race. Those were the days. This Wednesday the 2014 edition of the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix starts at 6:15 for the women and 7:30 for the men, in Gastown.
Oliver Wood
July 1st, 2014 — Oliver Wood of Team Devo celebrates winning his first Tuesday night criterium at UBC after holding onto a break that started on the bell lap. More pictures below and much more to come next week when BC Superweek and the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix take place.
