To be demolished
November 24th. 2024 — These four houses, almost new, the first two on West King Edward Blvd, the last two on South West Marine Drive are parts of land assemblies and will soon be demolished. Beautiful houses worth far less than the dirt they sit on.
Broadway plan
November 24th, 2024 — If you saw the previous day’s post you might wonder why 400 to 500 people of different backgrounds would gather at city hall to hear some speeches about zoning. The pictures below, all within a couple of blocks of 14th and Main, explain. They are of six old low rise apartments whose owners want to rezone so the buildings can be demolished and replaced with towers. The renters, despite assurances from the city a new home will be found for them, will be evicted and in a city with virtually no vacancies; have nowhere to go. This is known as the Broadway Plan.
Canopy with 2×4’s
September 21st, 2024 — The overdoor canopies of all 25 units in the Crescent West townhouse development at UBC are propped up with 2×4’s shimmed with bits of 2×6. The complex was built in 2009. One unit, currently for sale for 2.5 million dollars, is described as a “… townhome of uncompromising quality, sophistication & style…”.
