Welcome to Richmond
March 1st, 2021 — The skytrain on its way over the Fraser River to Richmond. Along the west side of the bridge is a bike lane and at each end there is a welcome sign; on the north it’s to Vancouver, on the south it’s to Richmond. Neither are pretty. When the skytrain extension to Richmond was proposed there was opposition to it being elevated; that it would destroy the ambience of Richmond. Geoff Plant, the local MLA and attorney general, was asked to comment. He said, “Ambience? Richmond doesn’t have any ambience”.

Fish and chips
February 20th, 2021 — There’s not much left of the old Britannia Beach townsite. The buildings that contained gift shops and galleries have been raised off their foundations and set aside for redevelopment of some kind. The fish and chip shop, however, is still there and a local who was just finishing his meal said there would be a revolt if it were forced to move.
