The irony

November 4th, 2022 — This house in the 3500 block of West 26th Avenue was demolished today. Below is what it looked like a month ago. It will be replaced by a larger home with three suites and maybe a laneway house. The irony is that this block was recently rezoned for six story apartments so the new house will certainly be demolished again, possibly in less than a decade.

Take the bus

May 2nd, 2022 — The city of Vancouver wants people to use public transit so Translink, the people responsible for public transit, are removing bus stops along the busiest routes in the city. Possibly they think if people have to walk farther to find a bus stop they will be more likely to appreciate the ride.

Vancouver specials

March 14th, 2022 — A block of Vancouver specials in the 2400 block of Galt Street shadowed, on a sunny day, by highrises on Kingsway. There was a time when Vancouver specials were the answer to Vancouver’s housing problem; now they are the problem.

Rental demolition

December 13th, 2021 — Older, affordable walkup rental apartments being demolished to make way for “Chloé, an elegant collection of 48 Parisienne-inspired homes at 47th Avenue and East Boulevard in Kerrisdale”. There’s no mention of price but if you have to ask you probably can’t afford one.
