Channel Ridge Properties on Salt Spring Island was planned to be a European style village of cobblestone streets with 80,000 square feet of commercial shops including galleries and ateliers. The 90 acre site was to be pedestrian friendly and have a self-sustaining rooftop water collection system. However, within a few years it floundered into bankruptcy as the long time residents on the island expected. As of 2019 the floor of the onsite office was littered with plans for roads and commercial buildings while the clear cut acres nearby had fireplugs and lot markers sticking up through rock and brush where there were to be roads and houses.
