January 14th, 1974 — Homeless in Vancouver has been going on a long time. This Metis family, the Cardinals, were being evicted from their East Broadway apartment because the landlord, newly arrived in Vancouver, needed the space for his large family. The Cardinals couldn’t find a new home despite months of searching so their belongings were loaded into a truck and taken into storage. All the while the family was hoping that alderman Harry Rankin, who had become involved, could use his influence to find them a house, which he did, nearby, and by the following day.
