Is concrete green?

October 13th, 2021 — It’s curious that the two towers in the background of this picture at 1684 and 1668 Alberni Street are being considered for demolition and redevelopment — I assume because they are at the end of their life — while the two houses in the foreground aren’t. What is the life of a concrete tower; these two can’t be fifty years old? Does a city trying to be the greenest in the world consider demolishing buildings like these “green”?

Testing the waters

October 5th, 2021 — The city of Vancouver is right now debating a bylaw that will charge car owners up to a $1,000 a year to park a car on the street in front of their home. There will be ways to get around the fee and this car parked on the front lawn of a house in the 3900 block of West 20th Avenue shows one of them.
