Jeremy’s Roubaix
Escape Velocity spring series
March 1st 2015 — Bicycle racing on open roads has its moments of humour. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen the driver of a pickup pulling a horse trailer think he would be faster up a hill than Cat 1 riders. The truck was dropped very quickly at the next intersection. More pictures from the race in the gallery below.
Selfie
Circa 1985 — Contrary to what people might think selfies are not a new phenomenon and were common enough at The Province newspaper when I was there to be banned by one news editor. Specifically it was the selfie taken by staff photographers when flying with the Snowbirds or the Blue Angels while the plane was upside down, landscape below, the face of the photographer in the foreground. We all took it anyway, making a print but not handing it in with the assignment, keeping it for ourselves. In my case the plane never flew upside down but the print was on the wall in our basement for some time and a visitor, when seeing it, asked if I was a pilot. I said no it was taken when flying with the Snowbirds. He said incredulously, “you flew with the Snowbirds?”. I looked back and was about to say, “sure, hasn’t everybody” but managed to stop myself. It was one of those moments when I was reminded just how different my job was from that of most people.
Aldergrove Cyclocross
November 23rd, 2014 — The Musette Caffe and Brodie B-team Superprestige cyclocross race (is that a mouth full or what?) organized by the Vancouver Cyclocross Coalition was held at Aldergrove Lake Park near Aldergrove. Results can be found HERE.
Castlecross
October 4th, 2014 — Escape Velocity’s CastleCross Cyclocross Race took place today at Castle Park in Port Coquitlam and there were some interesting runups, including this one, the first of three, proving that Tobin Copley, the course designer, certainly has a sense of humour. There are more than the usual number of pictures below. A lot more. I hope it works.
Cyclocross in Burnaby
Aldor Acres Cyclocross
August 31st, 2014 — Mighty’s Fort Langley Classic, first race of the Lower Mainland Cyclocross Series held at Aldor Acres by Mighty Riders and the VanCX Coalition, had the usual tight sections and steep single track hills but this little turn near the end of the woods caused numerous crashes and one very spectacular pass, above, by a rider (left) who passed anywhere and often throughout the intermediate race. More pictures below.

Sept 27th, 2014 — Craig Richey on his way to winning the elite mens race at the 2014 Lower Mainland Cyclocross Series at Burnaby Foreshore Park. More pictures below.
