What a waste
October 14th, 2023 — This house at 4522 North West Marine Drive is being demolished so a new, probably much bigger house, can be built in its place. It was built in 1995 and sold for $4.5 million in October of 2021. The most recent assessment had the house itself valued at $455,000. That’s a lot of money for rubble.
Today, yesterday

Rebar
January 18th, 2023 — Rebar from the demolition of buildings on Oak Street south of 41st Avenue and across from Oakridge Centre.
The irony
November 4th, 2022 — This house in the 3500 block of West 26th Avenue was demolished today. Below is what it looked like a month ago. It will be replaced by a larger home with three suites and maybe a laneway house. The irony is that this block was recently rezoned for six story apartments so the new house will certainly be demolished again, possibly in less than a decade.
Five houses gone
October 16th, 2022 — Debris piles from the demolition of four houses in the 3600 block of Arbutus Street. A fifth house at the end of the block, shown below, will be demolished tomorrow. Two six-story rental apartment buildings will be built in their place.
